Week one of college football saw the return of Johnny Overrated and not a whole lot of surprises. The game of the week was Clemson vs. Georgia, which featured Clemson pulling the upset over the favored Dawgs. Personally I was not surprised. People truly do tend to overrate the ability of some of these SEC teams compared to top teams from other conferences. Clemson has a very good team and they were able to outlast a Georgia team who many consider to be the second best team in the SEC. The other big game of the night featured TCU and LSU in the "Cowboy Classic". It wasn't much of a classic. Although they were separated by only ten points on the scoreboard it hardly felt like a game separated by only two scores. LSU came in as the favorite and were in control for almost the whole game. Also, Boise State got blown out by Washington and it seems that their run as a BCS busting underdog has come to an end. The only other game to note in the top 25 was Oregon State falling to Eastern Washington in a stunning upset. The major story from week one was FCS upsets of FBS schools. North Dakota State shocked Kansas State, Towson downed UCONN, McNeese St. beat USF, Eastern Washington stunned Oregon State, and Eastern Illinois beat SDSU. Let me know if I missed any. Some FCS teams have looked very impressive with some blowing out FBS teams. Many people say the major story was the return of Johnny Manziel. I think that Manziel was a big story on Saturday but for all the wrong reasons. He showed Saturday why he is not a leader and will never be an elite pure Quarterback. He lacks leadership skills and character. I can not recall the last time I saw a quarterback talk so much smack and get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Quarterbacks are supposed to be calm, cool, and collected leaders. They are not supposed to be trash talking degenerates. Manziel showed he is the latter. Never the less there are still a couple more games on the slate this weekend and I will have further analysis of those and the new AP poll after their completion if it is needed. Stay tuned.
Update - The new poll didn't feature any real surprises. The few top ranked teams that lost dropped and there were no real leaps.
